Stella had never been on a field trip before. Nothing fun like that ever happened at P.S. 103. Most days Stella’s school tablet sat untouched on her desk as she stared out the window, watching the usual red dust tumble over the horizon. But as she walked into class, she noticed a strange lady standing where Ms. Juno was supposed to be. This lady had a tight smile and looked funny. Not ugly or anything. Just too fancy for a Martian school in the boonies. More like a Starship Lady.

your voice smokes thru the oaken bramble
pour a carbonated apology, a sun-stained
mile marked envelope, two ill-fitted birds,
hands small holes right before a rush of river
what it feels like being swallowed from the outside
crushing rings into truth serum, pretend
to be out of tune with that deception
I have been unable to parse my own persona
a pink cotton voice I remember thru the phone
I remember because it formed me into a granary
one crop after another of patriarchal idioms
whisper my secrets so softly into a glint of red hair
a saucer-eyed lace pattern cut into pine paper

Social Demise
On the horizon is the imminent retardation of your country or nation
Because everyone is glued to the tv, their phone, or can't turn of their Playstation
They call it fun and "social" interaction
But it's only an addiction to distraction, for endless shortlived satisfaction
When someone gets hurt or dies, people whip out their phone, not to call in the emergency
But only for their warped sence of urgency
To "share" what they see instead of helping those in need
Yes, people are so very social indeed...
Put it on Facebook, tweet it away
But in that social disarray, haven't they just given their humanity away?

Ohh, what a wonderful image -but the best thing about this is the soft, reverent atmosphere you create with only a few words.
